Thu, 03 Sep 2009

Auctioneer Phil McGoldrick recently won the prestigious Australasian Real Estate Institutes ’ Auctioneering Championships, achieving the pinnacle of success in his professional field.

Mr McGoldrick, who averages around 500 property auctions each year and also does numerous charity auctions annually, was one of 16 leading auctioneers from around Australia and New Zealand who qualified for the opportunity to vie for the title in the two-day competition held in Hobart, Tasmania this week.

He says he is ecstatic to have been named 2009 Australasian Real Estate Institutes’ Auctioneering Champion, particularly given the standard of competition. “I’m absolutely thrilled with the result as it’s something I’ve been aiming to achieve for a number of years now,” he says. “I feel both proud and humbled.  It was a great honour to represent Harcourts and my country and pretty special to win given the calibre of auctioneers I was up against.”

Harcourts New Zealand CEO Bryan Thomson says Mr McGoldrick’s achievement is “outstanding”. “His success is a testament to the hard work he’s put in over many years developing his auctioneering skills to a simply superb level, which not only sees him achieves excellent results in the field but have now seen him achieve this outstanding result at international competitive level,” Mr Thomson says.

Profile

“Phil is an intelligent and exceptionally talented real estate professional and a real asset to Harcourts New Zealand, both as an auctioneer and as our National Auction Manager, a role which sees him training and mentoring our nationwide network of auctioneers and managing our own annual auction championships.”

Phil McGoldrick has been calling property auctions for 15 of the 25 years he has been involved in the real estate industry. Auctions have been a full time pursuit over the last eight years, with charity and fundraising auctions and a role with Harcourts Group as National Auction Manager consuming the balance of his time.

Phil continues to compete at a number of auctioneering championships with successes as follows:

  • National Property Auctioneering Championships - Winner 2006 and runner 2007 and 2008.
  • Represented New Zealand on three occasions in the Australasian Championships where he has made the final four on two occasions.

Phil is passionate about the auction process to sell property; he says it is the ultimate way to discharge the real estate consultant’s duty to sell the owner’s property for the best price in a reasonable period of time. Whilst skill in calling auctions is important, Phil believes a good auctioneers real value lies in his or her ability to strategise and especially to negotiate for the owner client.
